Demolition Works set to commence in November

The club has announced that Demolition Works will commence in November in preparation for the beginning of the New Clubhouse Project in early 2020.

This means that the demolition will most likely be complete and the site cleared before Christmas. While there are still a few details to be finalised prior to executing the construction contract with the preferred builder for the rebuild, the club is programming to commence construction of the new clubhouse early in the new year!

This project is now well over 10 years in the making. I would firstly like to extend my thanks to the many donors who have generously contributed to making this a reality. There have also been many members who have driven this project to get it to this stage. In recent years, without the work of Chris Harper (Building Committee), Kirsten MacLeod (New Clubhouse Capital Campaign Committee), Matthew Ponsford and the many members of committees that have worked closely with them, we would not be at this point. We are also fortunate to have also received support from the Borough of Queenscliffe, the State Government and the Federal Government. We cannot thank them enough for their contributions and perseverance!

- Charlie Pitney, President

While time and safety (asbestos) issues mean that there won’t be a demolition ceremony prior to the start of work, there will be a Sod Turning ceremony in the new year when all grant paper work is completed and the construction contract is signed with our preferred builder. This ceremony will also be used to acknowledge the rich history of the exisiting building.

This is a very exciting step towards our dream of a new clubhouse. The club hopes to make a formal announcement in the next few weeks confirming finalisation of documents for the remaining Federal government grant and the construction contract and officially starting the new project!

In the meantime, we look forward to seeing you at our Season Launch Event to be held at Queenscliff Brew House on 30 November 2019 at 6.30pm.
