Tony Hodder awarded ESM

DR TONY HODDER

The Club is delighted our longstanding member Tony Hodder has been awarded the Emergency Services Medal(*) as part of the Australia Day 2025 Honours List. Tony has been a significant force in Surf Life Saving for more than 45 years and has held key positions in Venus Bay SLSC, Ocean Grove SLSC and Point Lonsdale SLSC. He served the Westpac Helicopter Rescue Service for 6 years and currently serves the CFA as an operational air observer – a role he has held for 30 years.  Tony has been personally involved in a number of dangerous and difficult rescues in conjunction with other Emergency Service organisations. He was heavily involved in the establishment of Point Lonsdale’s LERT and has made outstanding contributions as Bellarine District Supervisor responsible for management of operational aspects of Surf Lifesaving Clubs in the Bellarine District. Tony continues to serve as a dedicated and influential member of the lifesaving community. He was awarded Life Membership of Life Saving Victoria in 2024. We are very proud and fortunate to have Tony as part of our Club.

Phil Hughes awarded LSV Life Membership

The Club warmly congratulates long-term member Phil Hughes who was recently awarded an LSV Life Membership. His citation states: ‘Phil's distinguished 45-year service to lifesaving stands out for its depth and breadth, encompassing roles from Bellarine District Supervisor and referee at multiple state titles to serving on critical working groups for IRB and RWC manuals. His dedication extends through active RWC patrols, extensive training and assessment of lifesaving awards, and leadership as Geelong TAO and SLSV Powercraft Officer. Phil's unique contributions, including coordinating IRB assessments and facilitating numerous awards, have profoundly advanced LSV’s mission and improved lifesaving standards across Victoria, embodying a lifetime commitment to excellence and innovation in the field’.
This is well-deserved recognition for Phil's sustained community service.
