From the President: Changes to Club Executive

Dear members

Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club would like to announce the departure of two directors, including a Casual Vacancy on the Executive Committee until the Annual General Meeting later in the year.

The club has accepted the immediate resignation of Director of Aquatic Sports, Gus Birrell who has decided to step away from the role after two years. In Gus’ time as Director of Aquatic Sports, he has been instrumental in rejuvenating interest in the club’s aquatic sports space.

He has brought to the role great energy and positivity in order to develop some new initiatives and most of all, enjoyment. As a volunteer organisation, it is important to acknowledge that personal and professional pursuits take precedence to the role and respect Gus’ decision to take a step back. We thank him for his great work!

Director of Youth Programs, Richard Howden has also indicated his intention to stand down from the role at the conclusion of the 2019-2020 season. Richard, along with Louise McInerney and Romney Jones have headed up the Nippers program for the past three years and feel the time is right to pass on the baton to a younger crop of parents they can support over the coming years.

The Club’s nippers program has risen to new heights under Rich’s stewardship with a record amount of participants, the Starfish nippers program and high quality of training for nippers as well as instructors. Rich’s insight and business/strategic acumen has also been highly appreciated over a challenging few years involving our new clubhouse project. Thank you Rich, Lou and Romney for all your efforts!

We look forward to seeing all these members in another volunteer capacity in the not too distant future!

With Gus’ resignation, the Executive Committee now has a vacancy to be filled in the aquatic sports area. An appointment to this role will last until our AGM later in the year (usually around July-August). If you have any interest in taking on this role, please feel free to get in touch and I am happy to discuss over the phone or grab a coffee.

Nominations for any vacant positions (including the Director of Youth Programs) will be announced by email closer to the AGM. Please stay posted!

As always, don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any issues, queries, or concerns and don’t forget to continue supporting our volunteer life savers who will be patrolling every weekend until April.

Enjoy the upcoming hot weather!
