Club members recognised at Borough of Queenscliffe Community Awards

Two Club members have been recognised for their outstanding contribution to the community at the Borough of Queenscliffe’s Community Awards. Liam Petrie-Allbutt was awarded Citizen of the Year, while Eleanor MacLeod was awarded Young Citizen of the Year.

Point Lonsdale Primary School’s ‘Nippers in Schools’ Award, which was proudly support by PLSLSC and run by local parents (and club members) won the Community Organisation of the Year Award.

In a media release, the Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor, Cr Ross Ebbels stated:

“I have had the privilege of seeing first-hand the relentless energy this community puts into making the Borough a caring, connected and welcome place to live,” Cr Ebbels said. “Congratulations and thank you to all of our nominees. It takes a special kind of contribution to be nominated for such a prestigious award, and I am honoured to be able to call you all members of our community.”

Citizen of the Year was awarded to Liam Petrie-Allbutt for his many volunteering and leadership roles across the Borough, which include contributions to the Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club, Queenscliffe Maritime Museum, Queenscliffe Historical Museum and the Point Lonsdale Christmas Tree Lighting Committee.

Eleanor Macleod took out the Young Citizen of the Year award for her various aquatic and surf life saving volunteer work.

Club President, Charlie Pitney stated:

“We are so lucky to have the likes of Liam and Eleanor at our Club. Over many years, both of these members have put in so much time and effort to make our club great. Their contributions over the past 12 months have been particularly outstanding.

We are also lucky to have those who have so passionately driven the Nippers in Schools program through Point Lonsdale Primary School. At one of our AGMs three years ago, two parents, Kylie and Charlotte attended and asked why we didn’t do more with the primary school. From that moment, they have worked tirelessly to establish this program, working with life member Roger Lloyd, in particular to get this important program up and running.
