From the President: Creating a culture of volunteering

Dear members

At our recent Annual General Meeting, I stated that as a Board, we are focussed on 'creating a culture of volunteering’ during our next season.

We are currently at one of the most exciting points in our Club’s history. We have record membership, a new Clubhouse and we are underway in the process of rebuilding our Back Beach Base. Now is the perfect time for our members to get involved in our Club and help us to deliver our 2021-2026 Strategy, Our New Era.

In the wake of COVID-19, recent statistics have pointed to a decline in the number of people volunteering. Well, what a perfect opportunity for our Club to prove that we have the best volunteers and really come together to create a vibrant culture of volunteering within the Club!

So, what does ‘creating a culture of volunteering’ mean?

  • It means ensuring that you re-qual this year and attend your rostered patrols;

  • It means signing up to do your Adult Bronze Course;

  • It means putting your hand up to help lead in one of our Programs;

  • It means making sure you do Nippers Water Safety or become an Age Manager;

  • It means cooking a BBQ on a cold nippers morning;

  • It means encouraging your kids to stay involved;

  • It means encouraging your parents to put their hand up for a leadership position;

  • It means not just saying ’the Club should do X, Y, Z’ but actually coming up with a solution and driving it forward.

What all of this means is actually ‘buying into this Club. It can only be a strong community based on volunteers if we’re all contributing, the more we all get out in both our personal and professional development.

In 2021, we launched our Strategic Plan, Our New Era. I encourage all members to read it and understand what we’re trying to achieve. Buy in and help us to become a leading Club.

In 2022, let’s build on the foundations we have laid in Our New Era and create a strong culture of volunteering.
